What to expect

This CANSO Leadership Conversation brings together ANSP chief executives to address the strategic intersection of technology, resilience, and civil-military collaboration. Against the backdrop of elevated military activity across European airspace and shifting global security dynamics, the session examines:

  • Civil-military coordination under pressure — how ANSPs are managing increased temporary reserved airspace and the operational costs to commercial aviation
  • Technology as an enabler of resilience — the role of digital tools, data sharing, and interoperable systems in strengthening civil-military airspace management
  • ANSP responses to the new geopolitical era — operational adaptations and governance changes made since 2022
  • Collaborative frameworks — what effective civil-military cooperation looks like at the strategic leadership level and where current frameworks need reform
  • Global perspectives — how ANSPs from different regions approach the civil-military balance and what European ANSPs can learn from other models

Why it matters

The geopolitical environment since 2022 has placed civil-military airspace coordination under sustained operational strain. This leadership conversation addresses the structural question at the heart of that challenge: whether current civil-military frameworks are adequate for a sustained period of elevated military activity, and what technology and governance changes are needed to maintain the safety and efficiency of shared airspace.
